Move from question to action.

Start with the section that matches your immediate task. Each path summarizes what to consider and directs you to the appropriate ZworkSpace service or official government resource.

Four practical paths

What do you need help with today?

Follow one path or work through all four as your business develops.

01

Start a business in California

Build a clear operating plan, choose an entity structure with appropriate professional advice, organize formation records, and confirm the licenses or permits that apply to your activity and location.

02

Choose the right business address

Separate the roles of your entity address, mailing address, registered agent, customer-facing address, and physical workspace. Confirm each agency, bank, or platform’s current requirements before submitting an address.

03

Set up banking, mail, and records

Ask your financial institution for its current document list, keep legal names and addresses consistent, save account confirmations, and create a reliable mail and recordkeeping routine from the beginning.

04

Choose workspace as your needs change

Match the space to the work: a dedicated desk for routine focus, a private office for privacy and consistency, or a conference room for client meetings and team planning.

Local requirement

Planning to operate in Fullerton?

Check the City’s requirements before beginning business activity or committing to a location.

Fullerton Business Registration Certificate

The City of Fullerton states that anyone conducting or managing a business, trade, profession, or occupation in the city must obtain a Business Registration Certificate—also commonly called a business license—before beginning business activity.

The City’s application guidance says the business address must be a physical location. A U.S. Postal Service post office box or private mailbox may be used as a mailing address, but not as the business address on the application. Confirm directly with the Business Registration Office how your intended address and business model should be reported.

Home-based businesses require zoning review. For a commercial or industrial location, the City recommends checking with Community Development before signing a lease to confirm the proposed use is permitted at that site.

Operational checklist

Keep your information aligned.

When you start or move a business, use one master list so the same legal name, contact details, and intended address appear where required.
